A family business – decades of experience
Kohmansalon Metsäkuljetus Oy is a family business founded by Paavo Hiltunen. Forest work began in 1957 with hauling firewood and continued using a horse until 1967, when the first Valmet tractor was acquired. The company was founded in 1978, and over the decades it developed into a timber harvesting business that utilised the latest technology.
Today, we are responsible for the overall management and coordination of timber harvesting. Planning, implementation and monitoring are carried out together with our partner contractors. Our partner contractors perform the harvesting work using up-to-date equipment suited to the requirements of each worksite.
We use forest companies' systems in our work and make use of new technology to develop our operations.
History
- 1957 Forest work begins hauling firewood for the Hackman company
- 1967 The work is mechanised with a Valmet tractor
- 1971 The first forest machine: a Valmet CK forwarder
- 1978 Kohmansalon Metsäkuljetus is formally founded
- 1981 The company acquires its first harvester
- 1990s The company participated in the development of value bucking, which remains significant to the Finnish forest industry and forest owners today
- 2009 Kohmansalon Metsäkuljetus takes on broader operational responsibility for Stora Enso in cooperation with its partner network
- 2020s The company is involved in development projects with several universities, aiming among other things to identify technologies that make operators' work easier
- Today The company is a long-standing timber harvesting contractor in Eastern Finland
